ABOUT
Rowan Joyce (she/her) is a dramaturg, dancer, and theatre maker from Southern Maine. She graduates from Muhlenberg College in December 2024 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre and Dance (concentration in performance). Rowan began her performing arts career through acting but fell in love with dramaturgy during her sophomore year of college. Her focal interest is theatrical production dramaturgy. Her credits as a dramaturg include three Muhlenberg departmental theatre productions: The Labyrinth of Desire, Head Over Heels: The Musical, and Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812. Outside of theatre, Rowan is trained in modern and ballet techniques. Her dance interests include modern floorwork and contemporary ballet. She performed in In Motion ‘24, Studio Sessions ‘23, and Reset: New Dances ‘21 ’22 '24, all in association with Muhlenberg’s dance program. Her love of the performing arts led her down many paths, including brushes with theatre education and box office management. During the summer months, Rowan is the Assistant Audience Services Manager for Maine State Music Theatre. She is pursuing dramaturgy in non-profit theatrical spaces after graduation, with hopes of eventually earning her masters and doctorate.

ARTIST STATEMENT
I am invested in creative collaboration, with an emphasis on storytelling. I find the most joy in working with play texts that carry many layers of authorship, historical value, and diverse themes. I strongly believe in the necessity of dramaturgs in both theatrical and dance spaces. Weaving together my passions for textual analysis and the performing arts, my goal is to produce dramaturgical work that bridges the gap between relevant information and creative vision. I believe in the power of listening in creative spaces, and I strive to foster an environment guided by empathy.
